We wanted to update our living area, and didn’t know where to begin. I kept driving past The Style Project and kept dreaming of using an Interior Designer. One day I stopped and went inside. It is there I met Kim and she totally put me at ease and thoroughly explained the process of using her Interior Design services. Kim’s knowledge and enthusiasm helped us purchase beautiful and practical pieces of furniture for our living room. I always knew I could contact Kim and ask her questions or discuss any concerns. Location: Bardwell Valley, NSW

Client: D. Hodgson

We just wanted to write a small piece about the experience we have had with Kim and The Style Project in Sydney. In 2015 we transformed four rooms in our home including a complete bathroom renovation.
We had been trying to change and update the feel of our home.
With a 1920’s Californian bungalow it was a struggle to find the balance between ‘period style’ and not be ‘old fashioned’. We wanted to add a fresh feel with style and a quality appearance whilst staying in touch with the period features of the home.
It was clear to me we were out of our depth and so began researching interior designers. This was the beginning of our journey with Kim and The Style Project.
Kim was the first to respond to our enquiries for a start. The aura around the industry can be intimidating. Some stylists and designers can be condescending and supercilious.
Kim’s approach was the exact opposite. She was extremely open and helpful. We were immediately relaxed. She took the time to understand our home and ideas. Kim had great experience and understanding for our type of home. Her passion & enthusiasm came bubbling over in her questions or in the ideas she was suggesting and discussing.
Everything regarding the contract was clear. Meetings, proposals, idea sessions with materials, swatches and demonstrations were all managed promptly, were well organised or followed up. We toured retailers and design houses to view products in person and ensure as the client we were clear on what each product was going to be like.
Importantly for a designer; any changes suggested by us were dealt with constructively, allowing us to work together to achieve the result and design we wanted.
At The Style Project, Kim wasn’t just about the fluffy stuff of design.
She personally project managed the contractors and was on hand to inspect or coordinate the majority of work. Kim was always interested in how we felt about the project and at all times was open to feedback.
The final designs, set up and finished appearance of the rooms that we did have come out beyond our expectations.
The spaces are now elegant, warm and perfectly fitting with the type of home we have created.
Now not every aspect of a project runs perfectly. Occasionally, especially for us in Sydney a contractor, trade or delivery will let you down.
Importantly, in these rare instances, Kim did not hesitate to get involved, manage the issue and coordinate a solution. There were no cover ups, no ego, no blame or excuses. Kim and The Style Project took ownership and held those involved accountable, including herself.
I learned a lot during the experience. The rooms completed are outstanding and our home is much closer to being the haven we have strived for it be. We are so pleased with the result it has spurred us on to finish the other projects that had originally been planned for much later.
When we complete them it will be The Style Project right there with us. D. Hodgson – Bardwell Valley, NSW

Project: Wallpaper

Location: Dulwich Hill, NSW

Client: Rowley Real Estate

From the moment I met Kim Knox-Thurn from The Style Project, I knew I was in good hands. We wanted to make the foyer of our office look more appealing. After struggling with artwork and different pieces, Kim made the suggestion to cover our plain wall in wallpaper. Kim provided several samples and after selecting the one we liked we placed the order. The wallpaper arrived ahead of schedule which was a real bonus and Kim was onsite throughout the whole process with her team of installers and made sure the job was smooth and hassle free. I can’t recommend The Style Project highly enough. Kim will listen to your goals and guide you to the best outcome. Mathew Rowley, Rowley Estate Agents – Dulwich Hill, NSW

The Style Project experience with Kim Knox-Thurn is more than advice, tips and tricks on how to improve your home. Kim makes the effort to get to know you as well as what you want out of your home whether it is big or small. Kim caters for all budgets, styles and most importantly she is passionate about what she does. Her natural and humble approach to her work enforces that you are getting genuine advice. Kim assisted me in styling my home to take to market to sell. Although the changes we made were small, the impact was big. Kim was more concerned about getting it right than trying to sell expensive concepts to me. Her taste is divine; I just wish I could do what she does so naturally and with ease! It should also be noted that I called Kim at thickset minute (Monday) and we had it all sorted by Tuesday. Kim just made it happen! Her contacts in the industry are enviable; she was able to produce items that wouldn’t have been available if it was just me! I am now proud and excited to present my home to the public, also a little sad to be leaving now! I can’t thank Kim enough for the outstanding work that she has done and I will absolutely be going back to The Style Project for more Interior Design services. R. Calder – Cremorne, NSW

Kim Knox-Thurn from The Style Project and her problem solving skills helped us make a dream happen – literally. We had wanted to add warmth and get rid of the echo in our living area and give the house a modern feel, along with personalising each room and bedroom to suit each child. We were ready to give up, but Kim ingeniously imagined a way to use decorative wallpaper to lift the open area and customise each child’s personality to their room. We also used her skills in choosing fabrics, colours and styles for these rooms. She was able to recognise (despite my confused descriptions!) what we were aiming for and to perfectly realise that style. We are so happy with the results. Every aspect of Kim’s service from design to creation to installation, was perfect, and so I would like to Thank you for helping me. I had been struggling to find the perfect look and you completely understood what I was going for and make it happen. What I liked best was that you brought so many ideas and samples with you and I loved that you kept the pricing in my range. I also found it very helpful that you always accommodated my schedule and that you were in constant communication with me.A huge Thank you. Jocelyn – Marrickville, NSW

Client: Yvette Dal Mas

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to Kim and her team at The Style Project for doing such a beautiful styling job at our home in Carlton. The transformation was amazing and we feel certain that the final result of $1,515,000 ($135,000 over reserve) was in no small part due to your property styling. Buyers felt very emotionally connected to the home and because of that, they seemed to be happy to pay a premium price for it. Anyone considering styling their home and wondering if it is worth the money investing to get a return, it certainly is. I highly recommend Kim Knox-Thurn and trust her recommendations and will definitely use her expertise in the future. Yvette Dal Mas – Carlton, NSW

Project: Style Overhaul

Location: North Shore, NSW

Client: H.S.

I had recently moved back on my own, and to commemorate the change, I needed help to create personal space, without having to make any major changes as I was renting. The main areas being the Living Room, in which I was hoping to also have an office space to get creative. I almost gave up trying to find a package with an interior stylist /designer who could: 1. Meet budget requirements, an absolute necessity 2. Keep it from looking like replica of a store catalogue/showroom (Or) too upmarket which was not affordable 3. Work with my ideas of which I had so many, possibly too many. And then I came across The Style Project and their Style Overhaul service. This was perfect for me, because I got to engage face to face with Kim, who lives and breathes Interior Design & Styling. In the 3 hours we spent together, which flew, Kim was very quick and decisive on what I really needed, and what could work for me later when my budget allowed. Being conscious of time, she also made sure that I got as much insight to sourcing and value of products out there; where to find bargains to meet my style requirements without losing Quality and Style, and making the right choices by selecting furniture that would be an investment. By the end of the session, we had a Clear Plan to work with, which then gave me the freedom to really enjoy the shopping aspect, as there was more focus and direction on what to look out for and definitely what to avoid. If in doubt, Kim was more than available to assist and guide me further. The end result of Kim’s honest approach, her expertise and effort to see my plan through, is a sense of accomplishment to have created a personal space that reflects me and gives me a great sense of home, pride and joy. Thanks, Kim! H.S. – North Shore, NSW
