Decorating your home for the warmer months

Decorating your home for the warmer months

A simple way to welcome the warmer months into your home is by adding lighter colours.
This can be done with cushions, throws or a change of bedding.

My inspiration comes from the desire to add more of a freshness to a home, as opposed to the cooler months when I want to create a nesting feeling by adding darker tones and more texture – something you can snuggle into.

While the country is my escape, I love the colours of the beach, particularly those that have a more muted and faded look to them. Pastels, particularly in linen are such a light and fresh way of adding to a summer look.

Indoor plants not only provide a touch of green but they also improve air quality & keep air temperatures down by releasing moisture into the air.
They’re also much easier to grow in warmer weather with so many sunny days.
If you don’t have a green thumb – try a succulent as they practically look after themselves.

With Spring peaking its head around the corner and while some days are still crazy chilly, others are so warm it easily lulls you into believing we’ll all be back in Summer clothing before we know it.

Soft summer tones inspired by the simple luxury of the French way of life and their passion for creating homes made to be lived in, loved and shared is why this the “French Country Collections” Summer collection is one I look forward to with its easy blend of classic appeal and modern-day aesthetic.

Top 5 Summer Styling Tips

With less than 2 weeks until
Summer

Here are our Top 5
Styling Tips

Number 1

A quick and simple way of lightening a room is by changing doona covers & cushions to lighter colours.

While darker colours add to a cosy feel in the cooler months,
light & fresh colours work best in the warmer months.

For doona covers I like predominately white, beige & soft pastel colours.
This will give a fresh feel to the room and set the tone for warmer days and nights.

Number 2

Bring the outdoors in.

While flowers aren’t always possible in the warmer months as they don’t last as long, look to your own garden for fresh branches.  Lemon tree, bamboo & Camelia leaves will all last for weeks and add greenery to a space.

Number 3

Enjoy your floorboards.

By removing rugs you can enjoy the feel of cool floorboards beneath your feet.

Number 4

Pay attention to your outdoor area.

It’s time to re-stain decks, wash outdoor cushions covers & dress up the area you’re going to be spending more time in.  I love to buy inexpensive doona covers for outdoor daybed mattresses & they’re easy to add to the wash when needed.  Outdoor cushion covers are an excellent investment as they’ll retain their colour when left in the sun.

By adding fairy lights you can instantly transform an outdoor space

Number 5

Make your home smell like Summer.

I’m a huge lover of room scents and while Winter smells are more apple & cinnamon, Summer smells are a light & fresh citrus.

Making your own natural air freshener without chemicals is simple and far better for your family and pets.  Lemons are a natural deodoriser and will add a fresh scent to your home.

To make your own Air Freshener you will need the following:

1 teaspoon of baking soda

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

2-3 drops of lemon, lime or orange essential oil

500ml of hot water

Add all of the above to a small spray bottle & shake well.

This citrus fragrance will instantly transport you to a summer place.
