I’m a fan of Florence Broadhurst textiles and when Just Bedding sent me their Florence Broadhurst queen quilt cover, pillow slips & 2 continental pillow slips I was thrilled.  The fabric is soft & with a wide opening at the base, the doona wasn’t the usual wrestle to get it into all four corners.  I styled the bedding to show off it’s reversible doona cover and pillow slips which is always a bonus as it adds another dimension to the bed instead of it being all one pattern.

By turning back the top of your doona you expose the pattern on the reverse and add more depth to the overall look of the bed.

In keeping with reversible fabrics I’ve used mustard and navy velvet accent cushions which are feather filled and sit perfectly in place on the fold.

Patterns don’t need to match, you just need a common element which in this case is the colour

Just Bedding have some guidelines on their website that I’m sure you’ll find helpful when you’re next looking to update your bedding.

For me, the number 1 priority when shopping for sheeting is that it’s a high quality thread count and white only.
White sheets work with all doona covers and bedding and with some fabric whitener in your wash they’ll always look as good as the day your bought them.

Wishing you a fabulous week ahead

Interview with Zakkia.com.au

On a sunny Winter’s morning I recently head the short drive from my office to those of Zakkia.com.au in inner city Woolloomooloo.

Zakkia was created in late 2012 by Sara Lundgren, a Swede turned Sydneysider.
“I often found myself ordering home décor from online shops overseas,
and being the impatient person I am, having to wait weeks for my purchases
to arrive and spend money on expensive shipping quickly became unbearable.
Out of this frustration and my love for home décor of course, Zakkia was born.”
A friend described Zakkia as ‘Scandinavia meets Bondi’, and we think that sums us up pretty well.
Our items are a blend of Scandinavian simplicity with a clean, monochrome base that works with
mixed textures and raw materials in fitting with Bondi’s coastal feel.

Sara & Emma of Zakkia.com.au

Sara (Zakkia founder) and Emma (who looks after all things Marketing) were more than happy to chat about Zakkia

I love your website, what inspired you to start your business?
Home décor has always been a big interest of mine, although I had never worked in the industry before, my background is in marketing and I worked in a digital agency for some time, where it was very inspiring to work with a lot of small online businesses.

Zakkia products - zakkia.com.au

What’s your source of inspiration when looking for new products to feature?
We design all of our products and I’m inspired by many things: textures and shapes in nature, architectural lines and colours. I also love Pinterest for colour inspiration! Being from Sweden, I’m very drawn to the Scandinavian simplicity, and try to keep our designs as simple as possible and let the material speak for itself.

Zakkia Concrete Tray, Diamond, Pot and Vase - zakkkia.com.au

How have you found Zakkia.com.au has been received in the online shopping world?
Since the day we launched I have been completely overwhelmed with all the fantastic support and positive feedback we have had from our customers. Without this Zakkia would not be where we are at the moment and we are so grateful for this.

Zakkia Concrete Hooks - zakkia.com.au

What’s your most popular item?
Our round concrete trays have sold like crazy since they first arrived, they are flying out the door! Also our concrete and brass hooks.  I think it is because they are so simple in their design which makes them really versatile – they will fit homes of any style!

Zakkia Brass Candle Holders - zakkia.com.au

What’s an average day like for you?
Busy! The fun part of running a small business is that no day is the same, it is a bit crazy at times but it keeps things interesting! One day we could be meeting with our photographer to plan our photo shoot, the next we are working on budgets with our accountant and somewhere in-between we find time to design new products, answer emails and manage the daily running of the business.

Zakkia Polished Brass Bowl & Green Marble Tray - zakkia.com.au

Working for yourself what keeps you motivated?
My number one source of motivation is our fantastic customers! It is so inspiring and motivating to wake up every morning and see our Instagram feed full of amazing photos of our products styled to perfection in our customers’ homes and shops. They are a very talented and creative bunch of people! We work with a lot of small shops and boutiques, and it is inspiring to follow their journeys as well as they are all very driven and motivated people.

Zakkia Concrete- zakkia.com.au

I know you must work long hard hours but after work what do you do to relax?
I enjoy what I do so it doesn’t feel like work. I live in Bondi so whenever I have time I try to go down to the beach, even if it is just for a quick walk.

Can you tell me about your plans for the business in the next 12 months?
We’re working on our next collection at the moment which is very exciting, and we have also had a lot of interest from Europe so we are looking into ways of bringing our brand over there too.  We are currently in 230 retail stores across Australia and New Zealand and have had interest from several retail stores in Europe, thanks to Instagram.  I’m about to head to Europe, firstly stopping in to see my family and spend time in our summer house, then off to Paris to attend Mason & Object.
