Happy New Year & Welcome to 2019

Hello 2019

Another year is over and it’s hello to 2019.

For me 2018 had challenges and dreams realised.

How the year started

The year started off with new projects and then in March, Stephen my husband, had a heart attack which was followed by bypass surgery.  A challenging time for my family but thanks to the amazing staff at RPA he’s now healthier than ever.  This then lead to even healthier cooking and by the end of the year I’d started to grow my own herbs and veggies.

Work

Work heated up by mid year with renovations & some fabulous new decorating projects.
Some of our projects were completed from these inspirational boards we put together.

Time for a Tree Change

As many of you may know my family have had a house in the country for the past 4 and a half years that we’ve travelled to several times each month to relax and unwind.  We never tired of heading off after work for the 3 and a half hour journey to spend our weekends surrounded by countryside that we love & waking to the sound of birds chirping – still one of the best parts of waking up in the country.

During Stephen’s recovery we often spoken about what life would be like if we permanently moved to our house in the country and by late November we’d done exactly that.

It’s now been 6 weeks and we’re loving it.  For Stephen he’s now settled into a new role in Young and I’m working from home.  The Style Project now services Sydney, Canberra, Yass, Young, Wagga Wagga & surrounding towns.  I meet new clients both face to face and virtually with Skype/Facetime.

My New Wheels

The Style Project - My New Car

For our move I traded in my old car for a sturdy VW Amarok and love sitting up high in the cabin and driving from the country to city & back again – all the while listening to podcasts.

My favourites are How I Built This,  This Is LoveHere’s The Thing – if you haven’t discovered podcasts as yet and have a lot of driving to do, then be sure to check these out.

I’m constantly on the lookout for new suppliers and love CC Interiors (a sample of images below).
They have some of the most stunning muted napery & cushions in a fig pattern.
Here’s a link to their website

If someone had told me at the beginning of 2018 that we would have made this move I wouldn’t have believed it but here we are and now I’m wondering what the next 12 months will hold?

May the New Year bring you everything you wish for, along with a year filled with amazing surprises.

New Year’s Resolutions 2016

Happy New Year
2016

HAPPY NEW YEAR

It’s the first day of the new year and everything’s possible!

I’m sitting at the kitchen table of our country house with the fan blowing on my back.
A very warm 36 degrees & it’s taken me hours of reading on the sofa to making it here to the table.

We rang in the new year with good food and wine and a quiet evening in our special part of the world.  I awoke to a warm morning and a day filled with possibility.  The reality of that possibility in this heat is that I’m moving ridiculously slowly but I have four resolutions to share with you.

1.  Wear more hats
HATS

I have a head for hats and am time poor many mornings so more hats make perfect sense.

2.  Install more wallpaper

Nothing transforms a room quite like wallpaper.
In a few hours you have made a statement to a room that nothing else achieves quite like wallpaper.
I work with the most amazing wallpaper installer and together we have worked some real magic and above are just three of the bedrooms we transformed this year.

3.  Never stop learning

NEVER STOP LEARNING

Last year I attended workshops on calligraphy, brush strokes & getting more from my Mac.
This year I would like to learn more advanced skills for blogging and venture more into Youtube videos.

4.  Dream Big

DREAM BIG

Last year The Style Project exceeded my expectations and this year I want to move to a whole other level.  Since I was a child I have wanted to sell furniture, it goes back to a furniture store near where we grew up and upstairs from the store was an apartment (I’d never seen an apartment before, everyone I knew lived in houses) and the wife of the man that ran the store was so stylish –  I wanted to be him and her combined!  While I purchase furniture for my clients on a weekly basis, I now want to do this on a much broader scale.  So many of the items available to designers aren’t sold in retail stores and I’m looking for a unique way to showcase some of the fabulous pieces I have available to The Style Project.

The best of 2014

If it’s good enough for Oprah – read on!

Don’t get me wrong I adore Ms. Winfrey and her favourite things,
which is why I am emulating her with my very own list.
While I was lounging around contemplating the year I came up with my
list of favourite things from 2014.

put your feet up

Reading is a huge part of my life, which I’m sure would be a huge shock to anyone that taught me in school.  As like most things in my life I was slow to discover and then once I did, was hooked.  I read on average 3-5 books at a time and start each day with an inspirational read, currently that’s “Words to Inspire” from Kikki K.

This seems as good a time as any to thank a man who was such an inspiration in my formative years.  Mr. Cherry was my 4th grade teacher and such an inspiration.  From my 9 year old brain he was old (on reflection possibly in his 40’s) had white hair and was unbelievably kind. I have Mr. Cherry from Glenroy State School to thank for so many things.

Books

Kikki K The Style Project
Kikki K was a bountiful source of Christmas gifts this year from daily quote cards to
“Words of Wisdom” to get me going each morning to
“Simplify Structure Succeed” an insightful book into modern living.

Lorna Jane Clarkson The Style Project

Lorna Jane Clarkson’s “Nourish” is filled with amazingly healthy and delicious recipes and one that I gave as gifts this year.
Her “More” is what I intend to read in the coming days.

I  love to read both kindle and hard cover books and the best laugh of last year had to be The Andy Cohen Diaries.
I laughed from page to page – he’s a funny funny guy.

The Andy Cohen Diaries The Style Project

Best retail discovery

Uniqlo – the Japanese retailer has the perfect basics for any wardrobe.
My favourites are the white linen shirts which I now have one for each day of the week and
their navy cardigans – just gorgeous.  Ines de la Fressange ( a supermodel from the 80’s)
has created a boutique range for Uniqlo and my favourites are her denim shirts.

Social event

Diner en Blanc, an annual dinner (this was Sydney’s 3rd and my 2nd) held at a secret location each November.  It’s an amazing night where everything from what you wear to what you bring to sit on and eat from must be white  The end result is stunning photographs and a fabulous evening.  This year was Centennial Park and last year Bondi Beach – cannot wait until this year’s event.

Movie

There wasn’t a stand out movie this year so I’ll go back to my all time favourite from 2006.
The Lake House starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves.
The perfect “Rom Com” combination.
Get your tissues out, a box of maltesers and a good friend and you’re ready to go.
(This one’s for you Mils)

Best place on earth

For me and at this point in time it has to be the NSW Riverina – it’s pure magic!
NY can wait – Paris will always be there and Milan isn’t going anywhere.
This is the here and now – it’s the Australian countryside at its best.

Most delicious food

Would have to be Freekah Salad and this one by Karen Martini is a variation of what I put together
depending on whatever is in the fridge.

Best song

Pharrell – what can I say – you are fabulous!  This song makes me sing every time I hear it.
Like Andy – you rock!

Pharrell Williams The Style Project

Sing along

My inspiration

My family and friends, especially my husband and step-children – they keep me going day to day.

My mother who is a constant inspiration.

My sisters who I adore.

My nieces and nephews who make me proud.

My friends who are a tight knit group and such an amazing network.
Thank you for allowing me to never introduce myself, start my sentences in the middle of a conversation and be swept up in whatever new idea I currently have.

The Dalai Lama for his presence, love and respect of everyone.

To Martha Stewart whom I adore and emulate.

To writers – I hold you in such high esteem.

The founders of the Wake Up Project – you rock!!
I encourage everyone to get onboard here.  I do daily and it gives me purpose.

To everyone who has returned a smile, performed a kind deed or put someone before themselves – thank you.

And last but by no means least to my Dad.  It’s been so many years since I’ve seen you but I know that every idea that pops into my head is via you – thanks Poppa x

the end

Wishing you all a wonderful new year

Let’s get organised in 2012

One New Year’s resolution that will make you look & feel fabulous is to organise your wardrobe

Out with the old and then off shopping to bring in the new!

If you have the space, this is an excellent way to store handbags

The Style Project

Matching hangers immediately give a sense of order

The Style Project

Shoes anyone?

If you have a thing for shoes, a wire rack system like this allows you to see them all at once

The Style Project

Narrow shelving & drawers & small cubby holes gives you a well organised space for all of your folded items

The Style Project

This custom built belt, sock & tie organiser can also be achieved by adding small containers or separators to drawers

The Style Project

We may not all be able to afford Mariah Carey’s wardrobe, but you can dream!

If you are looking for a new wardrobe or systems to organise your existing wardrobe, I have always found the services of Impressive Wardrobes to be friendly, efficient & cost effective
